Mongolia's First 512-Slice CT Enters Clinical Operation at Third State Central Hospital

Release time:2026.06.29

Overview

Founded in 1925, the Third State Central Hospital of Mongolia stands as one of the country's earliest and most historically significant medical institutions. Established during the Soviet era by physicians from former Soviet Socialist Republics, the hospital has played a foundational role in shaping Mongolia's modern healthcare system for nearly a century.

Today, as Mongolia continues to advance its healthcare modernization agenda, the demand for high-end diagnostic imaging has grown rapidly. However, with a relatively small annual CT equipment market—estimated at only around ten units per year—and a large proportion of aging systems still in clinical use, a significant gap remains between clinical demand and imaging capacity.

Against this backdrop, the hospital has successfully introduced the NeuViz Epoch 512-slice CT, marking the first installation of a 512-slice CT system in Mongolia. The system has now been fully installed and brought into clinical operation, representing a landmark achievement in the country's diagnostic imaging development.

A National Milestone in Diagnostic Imaging Capability

The introduction of the NeuViz Epoch system brings ultra-high-resolution imaging, ultra-fast acquisition speed, and AI-assisted reconstruction into routine clinical workflows. These capabilities enable more precise evaluation of cardiovascular, neurological, pulmonary, and systemic diseases.

One of the most significant improvements lies in examination speed and workflow efficiency. Cardiac CT examinations that previously required 2–3 hours on 64-slice systems can now be completed within seconds. Full-body vascular imaging can be performed in approximately 5 seconds, while cardiac post-processing time has been reduced from around two hours to just about 10 minutes—dramatically accelerating clinical decision-making.

In daily practice, this transformation has also significantly increased diagnostic capacity. Compared with earlier systems supporting around five patients per day, the new platform now enables at least 20 examinations daily, supporting more than 500 cases per month.

Beyond efficiency, the system's AI-powered reconstruction algorithms help reduce motion and respiratory artifacts, enabling clearer visualization of vascular structures and pathological changes. This enhances diagnostic confidence in complex clinical cases and improves overall reporting accuracy.

Importantly, the system also reduces the need for patients to travel abroad for advanced imaging services, strengthening Mongolia's domestic diagnostic capacity and improving equitable access to timely healthcare.

A New Chapter for Mongolia's Healthcare System

The successful introduction of Mongolia's first 512-slice AI-powered CT system represents more than a technological upgrade—it signals a structural transformation in national diagnostic capability.

With the system now in routine clinical operation, the Third State Central Hospital is expected to significantly improve diagnostic precision, streamline workflow efficiency, and expand access to advanced imaging across multiple clinical departments. Selected clinically complex examinations will be provided free of charge, further improving access to high-end diagnostic services for critical patient groups.

This milestone reflects a broader shift in Mongolia's healthcare modernization journey: strengthening domestic imaging capacity, improving diagnostic independence, and reducing reliance on overseas diagnosis.

Together with global clinical partners, Neusoft Medical Systems remains committed to advancing precision imaging, enabling smarter clinical workflows, and supporting the continuous development of healthcare systems worldwide.

Clinical Voices

Dr. Tumur-Ochir

General Director, Third State Central Hospital of Mongolia

"The introduction of this system marks a significant milestone for Mongolia. Previously, advanced cardiac examinations could take 2–3 hours, while now they can be completed within just a few seconds. This technology will significantly reduce patient waiting times and the need for overseas diagnosis, contributing to improved national healthcare capacity."

Dr. Erdembileg

Chief Specialist, Radiological Diagnostics Subcommittee, Ministry of Health

"For the first time in Mongolia, an AI-based 512-slice CT system has been installed and introduced into clinical operation at the Third Central Hospital. This advanced imaging technology represents a major step forward in improving diagnostic accessibility and strengthening clinical capability in Mongolia."
